Mitten is a childcare management app — daily reports, photos, messaging, billing, payroll prep — built in Langley, British Columbia. It didn't start as a product. It started as software OKTD (our web & app studio) built for a real client daycare, Pacific Coast Childcare Academy, who still use it every day. Once it worked for them, we opened it to every BC daycare.
That origin shapes everything: Mitten is Canadian-built and Canadian-hosted, priced in the open (free for your first 5 children, then $20/mo + $2 per child), takes no cut of your tuition payments, and is built around how childcare actually works here — CCFRI, CRA tax receipts, e-Transfer, provincial ratios — not adapted from a US product.
Who writes our guides & research
Our resource library — owner guides, free tools, and the research hub — is written and edited by Ben Choi, Mitten's founder, with the same care we put into the app. We're a software team, not clinicians, and we say so on every research page. Our rule is simple and absolute: every factual claim links to a primary source — a peer-reviewed study, a national position statement, or a Canadian health or tax guideline — with a visible review date. If the evidence changes, the article changes.
